On July 6 Sixth International school conference-competition Yakutia International Science Fair (YISF), which brought together young researchers from 11 countries around the world, started in Yakutia. This year 284 students from El Salvador, India, Indonesia, Iran, Palestine, Puerto-Rico, Romania, Turkey, UAE, Tajikistan and Russia  will participate.

A total of 160 projects were submitted for the competition in four scientific sections:
– Mathematics, computer science and information technology;
– Physics, astronomy and engineering sciences;
– Life sciences, environmental sciences and chemical sciences;
– Social and humanitarian sciences.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Minor Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Northeastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov. The event is supported by the MILSET-Vostok* program and scientific institutes of the Yakut Scientific Center of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Russia is represented by schoolchildren from the Moscow Region, Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Yakutia is represented by students from Suntarsky, Churapchinsky, Namsky, Nyurbinsky, Gorny, Vilyuysky districts and the city of Yakutsk.

A special feature of YISF is that the official working language of the conference is English: all participants present and defend their projects exclusively in this language.

The grand opening began with welcome videos from participants from different countries. In short videos,  they not only introduced themselves, but also talked about their hobbies and culture, immersing guests and participants in the atmosphere of their country and people.

Mikhail Prisyazhny, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Alexander Leontovich, President of the regional branch of MILSET-Vostok, and Vasily Pavlov, Rector of the Minor Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), addressed the participants with welcoming words. Ivan Smirnov, Director of St. Basil the Great Orthodox Gymnasium, greeted the participants on behalf of the YISF Expert Commission.  The speakers noted that the Yakutia International Science Fair is not only an opportunity to talk about their scientific projects, but also a unique space for exchanging ideas, finding like-minded people, developing and inspiring new discoveries.

This year, the conference is going to be held in a hybrid format — some participants work remotely, some face-to-face. Young researchers will have to present their projects to experts in the framework of sections, and then at a poster session, where invited guests will evaluate their work. In addition, public voting will be organized, both online and face-to-face.

The best projects will be determined based on the results of the conference–competition. You can follow the news of the Yakutia International Science Fair on the official website and on social networks of the Minor Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
